“Alive From the Other Side of the World” is Alex Baudo’s seventh, and latest, album, which was recorded in January 2019 at Federation University in Ballarat, Australia. This new recording comprises in all eleven tracks, six of which are new original pieces. Also featured are some old “live” favourites, that Alex likes to always include in his musical repertoire, as well as three classic songs, such as “Put a Little Love in Your Heart”, a piece that has been recorded by many artists over the years, including Al Green; “If You’re Ready” by The Staples Singers; and “Me and Mrs Jones,” the classic “soul” song co-written by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Cary Gilbert, and first recorded by Billy Paul, back in 1972. Using all these pieces blended together, including the new original ones, like “A Brighter Higher Ground” and “Not a Perfect World,” Alex wanted to create a sonorous tapestry inspired by the “Gospel” tradition, which he has admired for a very long time and which has been for him an important influence on his own musical formation. Alex is here offering through his music – to be understood as both aesthetic expression and poetic proposition – what he calls “a message of hope for a better future.” Infused with a strong “soul” feel to it, this new album invites the listener to tune into an emotionally-rich musical frequency of the “heart” and celebrate the sheer joy of life, indeed of being “alive,” from the other side of the world, or really anywhere else for that matter!
