It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of the Daimon Brunton Quintet's latest release Wah Sa.
Wah Sa is the fourth album from the Daimon Brunton and the first to be recorded live. Both a popping, rhythm and beats propelled salute to the 70s recordings of Freddie Hubbard, and an attempt to capture the Melbourne-based group’s electrifying live gigs.
"It' warts and all, but with a band this ON, even their warts can be pearls. Of the five, three tunes are Brunton originals and the other two are covers –Herbie Hancock’s jamming warhorse ‘Chameleon’ and Freddie Hubbard’s highly influential ‘Red Clay’ from 1970. Brunton’s playing has all the snap, crackle and pop and Woody Shaw-style edge to his tone to carry this off, where a lesser trumpeter would get tangled up in the blistering runs or just plain lose their mojo. This is high-energy stuff." John Hardaker, Jazz & Beyond.
Wah Sa is available to purchase online through our website, at all good record stores, and for download at iTunes, eMusic, Guvera and more.
The Daimon Brunton Quintet will be touring from June 28th - July 15th. For more information and tour dates head over to our blog www.newmarketmusic.wordpress.com, or wwww.daimonbrunton.com.
