Julian Curwin - Second Sight
Julian Curwin follows up his 2020 album 'Midnight Lullaby' with this second collection of dark and sultry lullabies. A blend of jazz, classical, film music and latin sounds, 'Second Sight' treads similar stylistic ground to its predecessor, though also delving into the macabre and supernatural.
Aside from Curwin's guitars, the all-star Midnight Lullaby ensemble features pianist Stu Hunter (The Migration, Tina Harrod), bassist Lloyd Swanton (The Necks, The catholics) and percussionist Jess Ciampa (Spaghetti Western Orchestra, The Tango Saloon). Special guest Ollie Thorpe brings his shimmering pedal steel to 3 pieces, all of which coincidentally start with the letter S.
Curwin has been producing recordings for over 20 years, with the likes of The Tango Saloon, The Mango Balloon, Munkle and Cannibal Spiders, as well as 2018's critically acclaimed 'Crossing' collaboration with soprano Jane Sheldon. The Midnight Lullaby albums fall stylistically somewhere in the middle of all of these, taking elements from each and distilling them into one of Curwin's most cohesive and personal projects to date.
