Album Description

A follow up to the successful 2003 Australian Jazz Bell Award winning release Collected Works Volume I, Collected Works Volume II: Fifty Years Of New Orleans Jazz sees Allan Browne pay homage to the influence jazz greats of the past have had in shaping his jazz career by personally selecting New Orleans style material from his past catalogue of recordings, including four previously unreleased tracks.

For 20 years Allan played in two-time ARIA award winning outfit the Paul Grabowsky Trio and has worked with the likes of fellow jazz greats Paul Williamson, Eugene Ball, Nick Haywood, Mark Hannaford, Sam Anning and Bob Seddegreen. Allan has also accompanied international jazz icons Jimmy Witherspoon, Milt Jackson, Phil Woods, Herb Ellis, Al Cohn, Barnie Kessel and Richie Cole to name but a few. In 1992 he led contemporary jazz group Onaje to represent Australia at the world-renowned Montreal International Jazz Festival in Quebec, Canada and, in 2000 was awarded the prestigious Australia Council Don Banks Music Award for his contribution to Australian music.

Collected Works Volume II: Fifty Years Of New Orleans Jazz features material spanning Allan’s illustrious career, from his early days with the internationally acclaimed Red Onion Jazz Band circa 1960’s (King Oliver Revisited EP, Big Band Memories LP and live material from the 1967 Polish Jazz Festival), Genre Jumping Jazz (1989), Crisis (1993), and more recent works including the 2007 Australian Jazz Bell Award winning release Five Bells & Other Inspirations, He’s Not Much (But He’s All He Thinks About), and Allfrey Street recorded with his wife and composer in her own right Margie Lou Dyer.
