Album Description

In support of the latest specialty live performance of the ONSEMBLE MELBOURNE at the Barn Gallery Monsolvat, recorded by the ABC for future airplay on Jazz Up Late and hosted by Gerry Koster, Newmarket is very proud to re-feature 'Live At PBS FM 1981' now available for your ordering convenience.

This live performance, first released as an LP by Bill Hawtin of Jazznote Records, was recorded at former PBS studios at the Prince of Wales Hotel in St.Kilda, featuring Barry Buckley on bass, Bob Sedergreen on piano, Ted Vining on drums and Alan Lee on congas and percussion.

There is something undeniably special about live recordings, as is the case with this release which presents the Trio at their furious, grooving best. Live At PBS FM 1981 is a very ‘live’ and rowdy performance, oozing with energy and dynamic. This recording certainly captures the spontaneity and intuition the group is known for and showcases the personalities and calibre of musicianship involved.

“Ted Vining is one of the most exciting, dramatic and soulful drummers we have ever had in this country” JOHN CLARE, SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

“The three play with one mind, settling into a perfectly synchronised groove, continually throwing ideas at each other, without anyone ever being caught off guard. If only more bands could communicate with each other, and their listeners, so effectively.” ADRIAN JACKSON
